Pratap criticizes referee standards despite win

Labasa’s head coach Ravneel Pratap has voiced concerns about the standards of refereeing following his team’s 2-1 victory over T/Naitasiri in the DFPL Round 5.

Despite the win, Pratap mentioned several officiating errors that spoiled the match’s integrity.

Speaking to FijiLive, Pratap pointed out an incident where a legitimate goal by Labasa was disallowed, labeling it as the first major mistake by the match officials.

“I think there was a clear goal by Labasa which was disallowed, that was the first blunder done by the referee, we can say that was a human error maybe but then there were a few more big errors which contributed to the game, I think that is not acceptable.”

The Labasa coach also mentioned the broader issue of refereeing standards in the league which was the lack of improvement despite repeated feedback from coaches and officials.

“Lot of comments have been given by the coaches and the officials, but the referee standards are not improving,” he stated, adding that those who critique often face suspensions.

“Most of the time it is only one team that is not happy with match decision but even though we won the game, I think both the teams were not happy with the decision made by the referees.”
