Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is openly challenging Opposition Leader Voreqe Bainimarama to provide evidence of everything he is claiming or face the music.
In a statement today, Rabuka called on Bainimarama to tell the public in which parts of Fiji the so-called persecution is happening and how many people are affected.
Rabuka said the Coalition Government has a message for Bainimarama and FijiFirst, and that is to provide specific details to reports they have received alleging that the Government has acted unconstitutionally.
“If Bainimarama fails to provide the details of what he has published in his attempt to smear the image of our Coalition, then he and those working with him must be prepared to face the consequences within the law.”
He also highlighted that Fiji has rejected his two-man rule and the former FijiFirst Government.
Rabuka said remarks by Bainimarama and his absentee former Attorney-General indicate they have deluded themselves into thinking that they were not beaten in the recent General Election.
He said Bainimarama keeps boasting about winning more votes than anyone else and that his party is the biggest in Parliament.
“Here’s the truth: Bainimarama was defeated. His share of votes had been declining since the 2014 election. When the votes were tallied this time in December, the FijiFirst votes had dropped below 42 per cent, well below the support it needed to stay in power.”
Rabuka said that Bainimarama needs to take a beat and understand 58 per cent of those who went to the polls last year wanted change.
“Opposition parties in total registered 70, 000 more votes than FijiFirst,” he added.
