Rabuka meets UK’s Foreign Secretary

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka met with the UK’s Foreign Secretary Rt Hon Lord David Cameron in London, where their discussions were centered around the strong and enduring relationship between Fiji and the United Kingdom.

Rabuka took the opportunity to express how our strong people-to-people ties are a testament to the deep-rooted friendship between our countries.

He said that Fijians have made significant contributions to the UK from education and sports to employment. Since 1961, over 2000 of whom continue to serve in the British Armed Forces

In 1962, the first 212 Fijians were recruited to serve in the British Armed Forces. Recruitment resumed in 1997 after Fiji’s readmission to the Commonwealth, many of whom now call the UK home.

He said their discussions also focused on the next Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa, later this year.
