Rewa moves closer to OCL semifinals

Rewa secured a crucial 3-2 victory against the Solomon Warriors in their second group match of the OFC Champions League in Tahiti today to move closer to securing a semifinal spot.

The match saw its first goal in the 15th minute when Solomon Warriors’ skipper Gagame Feni broke through, shooting past the Rewa goalkeeper Isikeli Sevanaia from the side despite Leone Kofana’s efforts to make a clearance.

Rewa skipper Setareki Hughes equalized in the 39th minute, skillfully beating a defender and shooting between two Warriors’ to find the net.

Just before halftime, Samuela Kautoga put Rewa ahead with a powerful shot where he raced through with four Solomon defenders to score.

In the 69th minute, Josaia Sela extended Rewa’s lead to 3-1.

Sela beat the offside trap set by Hughes, rounded the keeper and patiently scored from an acute angle.

The Solomon Warriors responded quickly, with Feni scoring his second goal of the match through a beautiful header in the 71st minute, bringing the score to 3-2.

Rewa now needs to win or draw against Hekari in their final group match to progress to the semifinals while the second consecutive loss sends the Solomon Warriors out of the competition.
