Tuva Rugby created a huge upset on Day 2 of the McDonald’s coral Coast 7s beating veteran Fiji 7s star Pio Tuwai’s Pacific Nomad 19-12 in their final Pool B match at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka today.
The Pacific Nomads started the match well and Suva fullback Enele Malele beautifully set up Nico Gilli to score but Panapana Qeruqeru missed the conversion.
Tuva responded with a try through Mesake Tuinamena who chose to kick and chase at the try line and he converted for a 7-5 lead.
But Pacific Nomads cut Tuva’s joy shot when former Fiji 7s star Eroni Vucago struck a long pass to Australian Brad Male to score his first try and Vucago converted to give the side 12-7 lead at halftime.
Tuva came out firing in the second stanza and scored another try from a ball turnover by Ratu Kini Joji who between the posts to score while Esala Navue converted.
Ball lost forward by Tucker Trickey gave away an advantage play to Tuva which they really needed to ensure they seal the win and Immanuel Bari made the final move to the try line before Tuinamena converted.
