Naiqama set to create 7s history

Wallaroos lock Sera Naiqama is on the verge of creating history by becoming the first Fijian to commentate in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Using the McDonald’s Coral Coast Sevens as a build-up, Naiqama is set to make her international debut in the in the commentator’s booth at this year’s Sydney 7s.

The 27-year-old said she is ready to do her country proud when she steps into the booth later this month.

“I am really happy that I am doing this first here in the motherland, and I really hope it’s going to put me in a very long sevens commentary career,” Naiqama said.

Naiqama said it is time that Pasifika persons especially women step up on the international stage in other areas apart from playing.

“It is time for more Pasifika women to come through, and there is always room for more.

“I am happy for the opportunities given to me, I may not be necessarily qualified to do it but I will say yes and challenge myself every-time.”
