Sela’s brace holds defending champs in opener

Rewa impressively managed to secure a 2-2 draw against defending champions Auckland City with a 3-minute back-to-back goal from Josaia Sela in the OFC Men’s Champions League.

Auckland City opened the scoring in the 50th minute through Cam Howieson, who capitalized on a defensive lapse by Rewa.

Howieson skillfully maneuvered past three stunned Rewa defenders to find the net, giving his team the lead.

Rewa responded in the 61st minute with a goal from Josaia Sela.

After intercepting a loose pass from Auckland City, Sela took his time to steady himself just outside the box and fired a precise shot into the goal.

The momentum continued for Rewa just three minutes later, as Dylan Shankar set up Sela for his second goal of the match.

The 21 year old executed a powerful shot from a side angle to double his tally, pushing Rewa ahead.

However, Auckland City wasn’t down for long. They mounted a comeback minutes later with Ryan De Vries coming off the bench to make an immediate impact.

In a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper, De Vries managed to score, leveling the match once again.

The game ended in a 2-2 draw, with both teams sharing points in a match that was as thrilling as it was competitive.
