Silktails’ skipper joins North Sydney Bears

Kaiviti Silktails Skipper Sunia Naruma has inked a NSW Cup contract with the 2023 Minor Premiers, the North Sydney Bears.

Naruma, a former student of Natabua High School, caught the eye of Bears Head Coach Pat Weisner with his performance in training and trial matches, earning time at number 6 for last year’s grand finalists.

“I’m really enjoying my time here and I’m thankful Pat Weiner has given me an opportunity. It’s been great also to reconnect with some of my old Roosters team mates from my time with them back in 2021,”

“Our squad is strong so I will have to keep my head down, train hard and wait for an opportunity when the season kicks off in two weeks,” said Naruma

Jay Gounder, a Silktails Board Member and Naruma’s player partner through Tradies Tax, spoke about Naruma’s journey with pride.

“For Suji being a Natabua Old Boy like myself, and being named James Dack Medallist for Clubman of the Year in 2022 and then Club Captain in 2023, were amazing achievements” said Gounder

The Bears are set to begin their season in two weeks, with Naruma and the team eagerly anticipating the challenge ahead.
