Special Investiture Ceremony revived after 65-years

In a Special Investiture Ceremony that was last performed 65 years ago, President of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere endorsed 14 Roko-Tui’s for the 14 provinces.

This special occasion was performed by the late Governor, Sir Ronald Garvey in 1957, when Fiji was still a colony of Great Britain.

While addressing the Roko-Tui’s, Ratu Wiliame said that the ceremony also marked a new beginning in the services of the Provincial Council offices in our 14 provinces.

He said their role played an important role as Chairpersons of each individual provincials councils and your role testifies to the support of the Vanua, particularly to traditional leaderships or Chief’s.

“Do not hesitate to ask for advice, you have our support, and we will stand by you.”

“This ceremony is not only a stepping stone to greater things for you individually, but for the i-Taukei people as a whole.”

Ratu Wiliame acknowledged the support of their spouses for their enduring support to their husband or wives.

His Excellency also acknowledged the support of the spouses of the 14 Roko Tui who were also present at the State House.

The President also acknowledged the presence of the Permanent Secretary iTaukei Affairs, Mr Pita Tagicakirewa and the Chairman of the Native Lands and Fisheries Commission, Ratu Isireli Vananalagi Vesikula.
