Labasa outclasses Suva in VPL

Labasa registered an impressive 3-0 victory in the Vodafone Premier League at Nausori’s Ratu Cakobau Park today.

The Babasiga Lions meant serious business from the opening whistle and went ahead just 55 seconds in to the match through a Ratu Apenisa Anare pile driver from outside the box.

Suva with Setareki Hughes and Kelvin Naidu missed a couple of good sitters while debutant striker Mohammed Jamshir Issac missed two good scoring chances for Labasa as the Northerners led 1-0 at halftime.

Fiji U20 midfielder Akeimi Ralulu doubled Labasa’s lead in the 57th minute and replacement Shamal Lal sealed the win in the 70th minute after tapping in a loose ball as goalkeeper Emori Ragata and the defender were well beaten in an aerial contest.

Suva pulled out Ragata and sent in Tevita Koroi in goal in the last 15 minutes.

Veteran Pita Rabo who moved up to the striker’s position towards the latter stages of the match missed two good opportunities while Labasa stopper Akuila Mateisuva denied Hughes and Chand on three occasions.

Labasa now has 9 points after playing 6 matches and remains on the 6th spot while Suva has 13 points after 7 matches.
