Nadroga holds Blues in IDC opener

Nadroga came from behind to hold Battle Of Giants champion Lautoka in the opening match of the 2016 Courts Inter District Championship (IDC) at the ANZ Stadium in Suva today.

The Stallions with the inclusion of some new signings did not start well and allowed Ba import Shameel Rao to net the opening goal of the match for Lautoka in the third minute.

Goalkeeper Pramesh Prasad who displayed a Man of the Match performance blocked two attempts from Samuela Drudru and Valerio Nawatu before Nadroga leveled scores in the 27th minute through nippy striker Jitendra Kumar who finished off a Jonetani Buksh move in style with a tap in, giving goalkeeper and Lautoka Captain Senirusi Bokini no chance at all.

Kumar and his younger sibling Jeshal proved to be a real threat to the Blues defence in the second half as they time and again launched attacks on goal.

The introduction of Mohammed Shazil Ali did not provide much spark as Nadroga defended brilliantly in the last fifteen minutes for the important result.

Lautoka faces Labasa in its match at 7pm tomorrow while Nadroga will take on hosts Suva at 3pm.

The teams:

Lautoka- Senirusi Bokini (C), Iliesa Lino (Cyrus Singh), Zibraaz Sahib, Valerio Nawatu (Mohammed Shazil Ali), Kavaia Rawaqa, Dave Radrigai,  Samuela Drudru, Peni Finau, Jone Vono (Leisari Qalica), Kolinio Sivoki, Shameel Rao.

Nadroga- Pramesh Prasad, Filipe Tuinadave, Paulo Buke (Taniela Raubula), Joeli Navalawa, Krishneel Dutt, Jitendra Kumar, Waisea Tale Junior (Sajneel Sharma), Gerard Voi (C), Jeshal Kumar, Shivneel Sharma, Jonetani Buksh.
