Itís a big challenge, says Gamel

New Fiji national football Coach Christophe Gamel says it will be a big challenge for him to guide the national team but is excited with the opportunity.

The Frenchman who jetted into the country today said while there are a lot of expectations, he will use his playing and coaching experience to bring about changes.

“I have to adapt very fast and apply my vision of football to the team. I want to blend French and Italian football culture here and make the players more consistent, fitter and competitive,” he said.

“This is a new opportunity and environment for me and while I am excited, I also know about the challenges that lie ahead and just need to plan better and put in a structure in place to help football develop and grow in Fiji.”

The former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) Assistant Coach believes there is a lot of potential in Fijian players and they just need proper guidance and nurturing.

“I have watched a lot of Fiji games and have done video analysis of their games. There is good potential and we just need to work better practically and tactically.”

“We can get more consistent, competitive and better by playing internationally and I will try my best to take our teams out of Fiji to play teams either in Europe or Asia.”

Gamel has a pro-licence from the Union of European Football Associations and has coached in Hungary and Qatar as well.

He also coached the Qatar U17 and U19 national teams.

He played semi-professional football in France and Italy with various clubs including ASMF, CSMeaux, VGA St Maur, Saint-Rapha’l, ES Lorgues. In Italy he played for Cassino sant'Appolinare 1927.
