Late Tiwa equaliser saves Ba

Captain Malakai Tiwa scored an injury time equaliser as Fijian champions Ba FC held New Caledonia's Hienghène Sport 1-1 in a fast paced Group B encounter of the 2017 OFC Champions League at Stade Yoshida in Koné.

The host club backed by a good local crowd started as favorites but Ba kept them at bay and applied some good pressure in both halves of the match.

Hienghène Sport managed to get on the score board in the 70th minute after Tahitian referee Kader Zitouni awarded them a penalty following a foul inside the box by replacement striker Samuela Nabenia. Nabenia was also booked for the offence.

Veteran Bertrand Kai netted the penalty, much to the delight of the crowd.

Ba applied continuous pressure after the goal and Tiwa slammed in the equaliser after some work on the left flank by Pranil Naidu. Naidu walked into the box and sent in a mid-air cross which was dummied by Saula Waqa and Tiwa raced to the occasion to find the roof of the net.

Meanwhile Team Wellington of New Zealand has taken the lead in the group after outclassing Cook Islands' Puaikura FC 4-1.

Vodafone Ba faces Puaikura FC in its next match at 6pm (Fiji Time) on Wednesday.
