Ba has bowed out of the 2017 OFC Champions League after suffering an 8-0 loss at the hands of Team Wellington in their semifinal decider at Stade Yoshida in Kone, New Caledonia tonight.
The Men In Black needed to win the match at any cost to book their spot in the final four while a draw would have been enough for the Kiwis.
The torrential rain and wet conditions affected play and Ba stopper Josaia Ratu picked up an injury after colliding with Team Wellington’s in the 10th minute.
The injury resulted in stoppage of over 10 minutes as medics attended to Ratu.
He returned to the field of play after receiving treatment and just two minutes after play resumed, the Kiwis went up through a penalty as Avinesh Warran Swamy fouled Ben Harris in an aerial tussle.
Jackson calmly put the ball beyond the reach of Ratu to give his side the advantage.
Ratu went down to the ground again after making a safe and the injury saw the introduction of former Dreketi and Fiji U23 stopper Shaneel Naidu.
Harris doubled Wellington’s lead in the 33rd minute and Mario Barcia took credit for the third goal in injury time of the first spell as his attempt took a deflection off a Ba player and landed in goal.
Wellington completely dominated the second half and netted five more unanswered goals through Harris, Jackson (2), Nicholas Zambrano and Leo Villa.
The win ensures Wellington’s spot in the semifinal.
In another Group B match, Hienghene Sport of New Caledonia defeated Cook Islands’ club Puaikura FC 3-1.
