Fiji beats NZ, faces South Africa in final

Defending champion Fiji has progressed to the final of the Las Vegas 7s after beating New Zealand 19-14 in a pulsating semifinal clash at the Sam Boyd Stadium in Nevada today.

New Zealand applied early pressure and took a 14-0 lead via a penalty try and a try by Issac Te Temaki.

Lanky forward Mesulame Kunavula scored Fiji’s lone try of the first half as the Kiwis led 14-5 at halftime.

Fiji lost its Captain Osea Kolinisau to a hand injury at halftime and his replacement Joeli Lutumailagi made an instant impact and scored Fiji’s second try. Vatemo Ravouvou converted to narrow the gaps to only 2 points.

Replacement Masivesi Dakuwaqa sealed the win for the Fijians after fending off three tacklers and racing to the try-line.
