Fiji beats Scotland, remains on course

Fiji remains on course in Las Vegas 7s after beating Scotland 24-12 in its second pool match at the Sam Boyd Stadium in Nevada today.

Speedster Joeli Lutumailagi scored Fiji’s first try in the opening minute but Scottish forward Jamie Farndale leveled the scores after dragging two Fijian tackles to the try-line.

Vatemo Ravouvou used his individual brilliance and speed to race away for Fiji’s second try and give the champs a 10-5 halftime lead.

The Fijians scored their third try through Mesulame Kunavula before Kalione Nasoko was sin-binned for an illegal tackle.

Farndale scored Scotland’s second try to keep the pressure on Fiji but the brilliance of nippy halfback Jerry Tuwai sealed the match for the Osea Kolinisau skippered side. Tuwai picked the ball from a scrum and raced away from his own 22 all the way to the Scottish try-line, untouched.

Fiji was again reduced to 10 players just at the stroke of fulltime after Lutumailagi was found guilty of making a late tackle.

Fiji will face Australia in its last pool match at 9.50am tomorrow.
