Fiji finishes third in Vancouver

Fiji ended its campaign in Vancouver 7s in third place after beating the United States of America 28-24 in a pulsating encounter today.

Waisea Nacuqu got the first try of the match in the opening minute through a brilliant kick and chase effort.

Perry Baker got the USA back in the game after beating the Fijian defence with his blistering speed.

Samisoni Viriviri combined well with Captain Osea Kolinisau to score Fiji’s second try but Baker again scored for the USA as Fiji led 14-12 at halftime.

Vatemo Ravovou dived in for Fiji’s third try midway in the second half but a try by replacement Maka Unufe narrowed the scores  by two points- 21-19.

Seta Bituniyata scored the fourth try for the Fijians and Maka again struck for the USA to narrow the points by only 4 and keep their hopes alive.

Fiji managed to cling on till the final whistle to claim the bronze medal.
