Fiji tops pools, faces Canada in quarters

The Vodafone Fiji 7s side has progressed to the Cup quarterfinals of the 2017 Las Vegas 7s after beating Australia 24-17 and topping Group D.

The Gareth Baber coached side marches into the quarterfinals unbeaten and keeps its title defence campaign on track.

However the team faced stiff competition from Australia in its last match and narrowly led 14-12 at halftime despite scoring two early tries through impressive forward Mesulame Kunavula.

Kalione Nasoko scored Fiji’s third try but Australian Captain Ed Jenkins touched down a minute later to again narrow the gap to 2 points.

Replacement winger Samisoni Viriviri scored fourth try which sealed the match for the Fijians.

The Cup quarterfinals commence at 4.16pm (Fiji Time) where South Africa will play Australia, Argentina will take on host the USA at 4.38pm, and Fiji will face Canada at 5pm while New Zealand and England will battle in the last quarterfinal clash at 5.22pm.
