Labasa overcomes Rakiraki in VPL

Labasa had to toil hard to beat newcomers Rakiraki 2-0 in their Vodafone Premier League clash at Subrail Park today.

Rakiraki after narrowly going down 3-2 to Dreketi yesterday put up another gallant performance and frustrated the hosts in the first spell, not allowing their attackers much space and chances.

After resting goal-less at halftime and some stern pep talk, the Babasiga Lions entered the second half with more urgency and commitment.

Midfielder Edwin Sahayam managed to find the back of the net with a powerhouse free kick in the 49th minute.

And newly signed Anish Khem doubled Labasa’s lead two minutes after, taking full advantage of a defensive blunder by Rakiraki.

The first win of the season puts Labasa on four points in the standings after three matches while Rakiraki is yet to register a point after three appearances.
