Rewa held by Western United

Rewa was held to a 1-1 draw by Western United in its second buildup match in Auckland last night.

The match proved vital for both the teams who head out for their OFC Champions League group stage matches next week.

Brazilian striker Silva Junior Elias scored Rewa’s lone goal midway in the first half.

The Solomon Islanders managed to draw the match towards the end through a penalty.

Brazilian defender Galvao Maximo Diego who committed a foul inside the box was also sent off, leaving Rewa with only 10 players.

Rewa’s Technical Advisor Gurjit Singh said the match was tough but it allowed both teams to test their combinations.

“We needed matches like this and the result itself shows how tough this game was. We played well in attack and defence and most of the players in the squad were used,” he said.

Rewa plays Franklin United in its third buildup match tomorrow night.
