Debutants out to do well

Saint Vincent College from Tailevu is aiming to reach the quarterfinals of the 2017 Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Inter District Championship (IDC) in Nausori.

The first timers to the competition have already made a strong statement by registering a 2-1 win over Sangam SKM College of Nadi in their opening match.

In their second match however, the boys from Natovi went down 3-0 to defending champions Nukuloa College of Ba.

Team Manager and Vice Principal Balram Krishna says the effort of the players in their first appearance in the IDC is commendable.

“This is the first time our school has represented in soccer and we are representing Tailevu. Coming from a province of rugby, the boys have done wonders coming into this tournament with an upset win over SSKMC Nadi.”

“Our coach Hirdesh Prasad conducted two training sessions in preparation for this IDC and I can see a lot of players express and share their feeling through this game of football,” he said.

“We have all the hostel boys in the team who had not even played in the youth grade, so this is the biggest achievement and we can say that we can produce players.”

“People from Tailevu are so happy seeing our team participating and I hope they come out in numbers to support our team.

“I would like to thank the major sponsor (Vodafone) for providing the jerseys, Hansons, our school management and the people from Tailevu for providing continuous support,” he added.

Saint Vincent College plays its next match against Gospel High School later today.
