Rakiraki relegated, Lions remain in the hunt

Rakiraki has been relegated to the Senior Division after losing its Vodafone Premier League fixture 3-1 against Labasa at the FSC Ground in Ra today.

Rakiraki (1 point) needed a big win in this match and also needed to win well over Suva on Sunday to relegate Dreketi (7 points).

Star striker Christopher Wasasala scored a solo goal as Labasa led 1-0 at halftime.

He netted two more goals in the second half to seal the win while Rakiraki scored a late consolation goal.

The result keeps Labasa’s second place finish and OFC Champions League campaign hopes alive.

The Babasiga Lions now have 24 points and will have to hope that Ba loses or draws against Lautoka tonight.

If that happens, then Labasa will need to beat Ba at any cost in their fixture at Govind Park tomorrow to claim the second spot.

Labasa plays Ba at 3pm tomorrow while Rakiraki will play its last match in the premier division at 3pm on Sunday at the FSC Ground on Sunday.
