Former Lautoka and national midfielder Alvin Avinesh and former Solomon Islands international Michael Fifi’i will feature for Labasa in the 2017 Pacific Cup which kicks off today in Auckland. Both players are based in New Zealand and will add more depth to the Babasiga Lions squad. Also included in the team are Lekima Gonerau and Ilisoni Logaivou. The pair were dropped from the Inter District Championship (IDC) squad due to disciplinary issues. National reps Amani Makoe and Antonio Tuivuna add further strength to the team which also boasts the likes of goalie Akuila Mateisuva, Taniela Waqa, Edwin Sahayam, Manasa Levaci, Jale Dreloa and Ratu Apenisa Anare. Labasa FA Secretary Varun Anand told FijiLive that they have prepared well for the tournament and are urging the Labasa community in New Zealand to come out in numbers and support the team. “The preparations went well and we are taking our best possible team for the Pacific Cup. We are anticipating a tough tournament as all teams will come prepared.” “We did not do well in IDC but hope to make amends and improve our performance in the Pacific Cup and I am requesting all our fans to support the team in Auckland this week,” he said. Labasa opens its campaign against Northshore All Stars at 6.55pm tonight at Bill McKinley Park in Panmure. By Reginald Chandar |
