Fiji thumps NZ, defends Oceania 7s title

Fiji defended the Oceania 7s Championship title in style by outclassing New Zealand 26-0 in the grand final at the ANZ Stadium in Suva today.

The Gareth Baber coached side meant business from the opening whistle and scored an early try through towering forward Kalione Nasoko. Waisea Nacuqu converted to give the hosts a 7-0 lead.

Nacuqu raced away from a breakdown to score Fiji’s second try just before halftime. He again successfully converted as the Jerry Tuwai captained side went to the break with a 14-0 lead.

The Fijians kept their discipline and maintained their consistency in the second half as well and scored two further tries through Nacuqu and lanky forward Josua Vakurinabili to seal victory.

New Zealand entered the final with a clean sheet as they did not concede any points in pool play, the quarters and the semifinal.
