Hayne denies Titans departure claims

Fiji Bati fullback Jarryd Hayne has rubbished claims that he had asked his manager to speak to Sydney clubs following reports that he is set to quit the Gold Coast Titans.

The 29-year-old who is currently in camp with the Fijian squad tweeted that he has not made any such instruction to his manager and Nine News Journalist Tom Fowles also tweeted that Hayne has told him he denies the report.

“If I wanted a move back to Sydney or to any club I would’ve done it at the start of the year,” Fowles quoted Hayne as saying.

The Daily Telegraph had reported today that Hayne is exploring his options elsewhere after a tumultuous 12 months on the Gold Coast, later reporting that he was planning to make a return to former club Parramatta.

It was reported that his manager Wayne Beavis is looking for opportunities in Sydney, with Hayne keen to move closer to family.

The Titans also made an official statement on the issue later today confirming that Hayne has not applied for a release and the club has not been in negotiations with any other club regarding his transfer.

On a deal worth in excess of $1 million a season, the Titans insist he is expected back for pre-season training in January after his World Cup commitments.

Hayne joined the Titans in late 2016 after returning from a stint with San Francisco in the NFL and a brief stint with the Fiji 7s team under Ben Ryan’s guidance.
