Krishna likely to feature against Estonia

Wellington Phoenix striker Roy Krishna is likely to feature in the international friendly match against Estonia in Suva on Sunday.

Krishna was initially ruled out due to club commitments but the cancellation of Phoenix’s A-League clash this weekend has given hopes to the Fijian national team.

Newly appointed national team manager Shamal Sharma confirmed they are in the process of making arrangements.

“The President (Mr Rajesh Patel) and Chief Executive Officer (Mohammed Yusuf) are in talks with Wellington Phoenix to get Roy Krishna for the game. Should everything go well, we might see Roy getting the next available flight to Fiji and feature on Sunday,” Sharma said.

Fiji FA President Rajesh Patel confirmed Krishna’s coach has given him clearance however they are working on other logistics to get the wonder-boy feature in yet another historic clash.

“We’re definitely trying very hard as there were certain conditions by Wellington Phoenix and we’re lucky that the game between Western Sydney and Wellington Phoenix has been cancelled this weekend so the coach has agreed to release him.”

“We have to meet certain things for Roy to come which we have already done it and Fiji Airways is facilitating a flight for him to come on Saturday and be back with his team on Monday.”

“We’re keeping our fingers crossed and the fans can expect Roy to feature on Sunday, also depending on our coach Christophe Gamel how he will utilize him. We’re 95% sure for his availability,” said Patel.

Meanwhile Fiji’s final 23-member match day squad will be named tomorrow.

Vodafone Fiji national team will face Estonia at 3pm at Suva’s ANZ Stadium on Sunday.
