Dreketi bows out, Suva remains in hunt

Dreketi has bowed out of the 2018 INKK Mobile Battle Of Giants (BOG) after suffering a 6-0 defeat at the hands of Suva in their second Group A match at Churchill Park in Lautoka today.

The Northerners also lost their first match 4-0 against Nadi yesterday and their final group match against defending champs Rewa tomorrow will just be a formality.

The impressive result keeps Suva in the hunt for a semifinal spot.

The Gurjit Singh coached side will now need a positive result against Nadi in their final group match tomorrow.

Suva led 2-0 at halftime with midfielders Kelvin Naidu and Filipe Baravilala scoring their goals in the 22nd and 36th minute of play.

The Whites were in total control of the match in the second half and scored four more unanswered goals through Sakaraia Naisua, Savenaca Nakalevu, Captain Ravinesh Karan Singh and replacement striker Faizal Ali.

Coach Singh said it was good to see the team scoring goals and this positive result should motivate the players to improve and perform better against Nadi tomorrow.

“Finishing was our major drawback in recent matches but today the boys improved and got the goals which mattered. This is positive for us but we could have scored a couple more goals if the players were on target.”

“This win keeps us in contention and we will now focus on the Nadi match as it will be a do or die situation for us tomorrow,” he said.

Professional Valuation sponsored Suva faces Nadi in its final group match at 3pm tomorrow while Dreketi will face Rewa at 11am.
