Fiji U19 loses friendly in Melbourne

The Fiji U19 side went down 3-0 to Melbourne Victory in its second friendly match last night at the Epping Stadium.

The Bal Sanju Reddy coached played well but their more experienced and superior opponents were stronger in all aspects of the game.

Victory fielded a mixture of players from their A-League and academy squads.

Fiji in its first friendly match came from two goals down to beat VMSA All Stars 3-2.

Iliesa Rakuka, Captain Savenaca Baledrokadroka and Tito Vodowaqa scored Fiji's goals.

Coach Reddy said both matches allowed him to test the squad members and give them their much needed international exposure before the OFC U19 Championship in Tahiti next month.

"We have played two games and it is a good build up for the OFC play-offs. Both teams we played were very competitive.”

“The games have given me chance to see the combination amongst the players and also see the mistakes that the players make.”

“These games are high intensity games, similar to the ones that we will play during OFC play off. Players are doing well and also learning a lot from this tour.”

“It also gives me a chance to test the ability of all players and how they take pressure before we name our final 20 member squad for the OFC playoff in Tahiti.”

Fiji plays its next match against Berwick FC on Thursday night and faces an invitational Mauritius side on Sunday before returning home on Tuesday morning.
