Jetsetters upset champs Rewa

Nadi has further boosted its semifinal hopes in the 2018 INKK Mobile Battle Of Giants (BOG) after beating defending champion Rewa 2-0 in their second Group A match today at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Midfielder William Valentine slammed in the opening goal in the 16th minute after getting a beautiful through pass from Josefata Dugucagi.

Lanky strikers Rusiate Matarerega and Napolioni Qasevakatini again proved dangerous upfront for the Jetsetters and set up some beautiful moves.

Qasevakatini was just denied before the halftime break by Rewa goalkeeper Manasa Waqavou in a one-on-one situation.

Rewa lifted its performance a bit in the second half and took a couple of good shots on goal but good goalkeeping by Vereti Dickson and some solid defending from Ame Votoniu and Ilimotama Jese kept the Delta Tigers at bay.

Matarerega sealed the win for Nadi with a beautiful strike in the 85th minute as the Rewa defence wilted under pressure.

Coach Babs Khan said beating the defending champions was indeed a great achievement for them and the win has more importantly pushed them into the driver’s seat in Group A.

“This is a great win for us and we are surely on track to progress to the semifinals. We beat the champions today and I am proud of my players.”

“We had an effective game plan to counter them and the boys just did everything right on the field. We want to finish pool play on top and our focus will now shift to the last match against Suva tomorrow.”

Rewa Coach Lorima Dau was a little disappointed and said his players lost concentration at times and this punished them badly.

“It is disappointing to lose and this result will surely put us under some pressure.”

“We will have to work extra hard now in our last game tomorrow because we will need nothing less than win to keep our chances alive. We will try to iron out our mistakes and play better tomorrow and this loss is a wake-up call for us,” he said.

Nadi will play Suva at 3pm tomorrow while Rewa will come up against Dreketi at 11am.
