Labasa qualifies for BOG semifinals

Labasa has booked its spot in the semifinals of the 2018 INKK Mobile Battle Of Giants after thrashing Tavua 5-0 in its final Group B encounter at Churchill Park in Lautoka today.

The Anand Sami coached side entered the match with a lot of determination and went up in the 11th minute through a 30-yard powerhouse shot from Antonio Tuivuna.

Christopher Wasasala doubled their advantage five minutes later from the penalty spot after he was tripped inside the box.

Midfielder Ilaisa Nayasi scored the third in the 22nd minute after taking full advantage of a defensive blunder.

Labasa led 3-0 at the break and managed to score two more goals in the last 10 minutes of the match through replacement Ashnil Raju and hardworking left-back Iilsoni Logaivou.

Coach Sami said while it was encouraging to win by a good margin, the fitness of the players is still a cause of concern for him.

"We badly needed to win by a good margin and I am happy that we were able to score five goals today."

"We still have a lot to improve on and fitness of the players is one of my major concerns as we are not fully fit at the moment and have to really work hard if we are to win this tournament."

"We surely can work out on the weak areas and come back better prepared and focused," he said.

The Babasiga Lions now have 6 points on the table and a goal difference of +4.

This result makes the last group match of the tournament between Ba and Lautoka an interesting affair to witness.

The Men In Black who already have 6 points will just need a draw in the fixture to top Group B while Lautoka has 3 points and needs to win by four clear goals to eliminate Ba from the tournament.

The Ba vs Lautoka match kicks off at 5pm.
