Nadi makes flying start in BOG

Nadi kicked off its Battle Of Giants (BOG) campaign on a high note at Churchill Park in Lautoka today and thumped Dreketi 4-0.

The Jetsetters were in sublime form with strikers Rusiate Matarerega and Napolioni Qasevakatini proving to be a nemesis to the Dreketi  defence throughout the encounter.

Matarerega opened Nadi’s account in the 7th minute after heading in a deep cross from Afraz Ali.

Qasevakatini doubled the advantage in the 37th minute after tapping in a through pass from Matarerega.

Nadi led 2-0 at halftime and continued with its dominance in the second spell.

Josefata Dugucagi, featuring in midfield today slotted in the third goal for Nadi through a free-kick from outside the 18-yard box.

Matarerega had the final say of the match as he slammed in the fourth goal in the 75th minute.

Coach Babs Khan said the partnership of Matarerega and Qasevakatini  was vital in their win and they need to maintain their consistency throughout the tournament.

“Certainly this result is a pleasing one for us and I thank my players for giving a good performance. We scored some good goals but there is still a lot of work to be done.”

“We have tougher opponents in the next two matches and have to prepare for them accordingly. Rewa and Suva are very tough teams and we cannot ride high on this win.”

Dreketi Coach Jitendra Nand said the result was not what they expected and now they will have to go back to camp and map out ways to better their game against Suva tomorrow.

Nadi faces Rewa in its next match at 4pm tomorrow while Dreketi will meet Suva at midday.
