Baber impressed with national reps

Fiji 7s Coach Gareth Baber is impressed with the performance of Fiji Shadow players who defeated Tabadamu 31-14 and won the 45th Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.

Baber said the players utilised all the skills and lessons from their camp onto the field.

He is also impressed with the level of discipline displayed by the players.

“They have given a good performance and improved in a lot of areas. Their discipline was very tremendous and made sure not to scoop any cards in the final which was another reason for the win.”

“We knew both the teams would get physical but being accurate was something that we always wanted and we didn’t want to give away penalties. In the first half, when Tabadamu had the ball in their hand then we made sure to make a good turnover and that’s something we did using through the scrum and tackles.”

“We were testing ways of playing teams and we talked about putting the ball behind Tabadamu and keep pressurizing them until the last minute. In the first two minutes of the match we saw that Tabadamu forwards were strong and we decided to use our wingers and gave the ball away to them to score the try and the players combined really well.”

“The players did exactly what we asked them before we took the field and the intensity that we put together and played as a team shows the positivity we are taking ahead as we prepare for the Olympics,” Baber added.
