Fiji Shadow wins Marist 7s

Playmaker Jerry Tuwai scored a brace of tries and set up another as the Gareth Baber coached Fiji Shadow thumped Tabadamu 31-14 in the grand finale of the 45th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s at the ANZ Stadium in Suva today.

Tuwai combined with Iosefo Masi to dot down the first try and Livai Ikanikoda converted for an early 7-0 lead.

Rover Sireli Malaqa scored Fiji Shadow’s second try after Tabadamu was punished for holding onto the ball late in a tackle.

Tuwai then set up Jiuta Wainiqolo to score their third try before picking his second of the final and extending their lead by 24-0.

A Daniele Cakaunivalu try just before halftime which was converted by Petero Kelevanua gave some hope to Tabadamu.

Maqala had to be replaced early in the second half by Waisea Nacuqu after suffering a knock to his face while Tabadamu also made a change and sent in Ben Vota in place of Tomasi Bulai.

Fiji Shadow continued to dominate the second spell and Simione Cece won the ball from a line-out and raced to the try-line to score their fifth and final try which was successfully converted by Nacuqu.

Hardworking Tabadamu Captain Kelevanua was rewarded with a late consolation try towards the end of the match.
