Maqala, Tuwai were standouts: Baber

Fiji 7s Coach Gareth Baber says young rover Sireli Maqala and World 7s Player of the Year Jerry Tuwai were standout performers at the 45th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s which concluded on Saturday at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

Baber said the former Ratu Kadavulevu School student was in his best form and performend very well under pressure while Tuwai used his fitness and epxerience to his advantage.

“Sireli and Jerry really stood out and when I say stood out I see a lot of things in a player. I see their fitness level, discipline, the way they approach the game, how they control the game on field and the approaches they take within the team and turn things around.”

“Sireli has that give it a go attitude and when he is on the field he plays to his best and makes sure to score tries and also does some good setups. He has brought in a lot of improvements in his game and from what I have seen; Sireli has that turning table in his game.”

“Jerry we all know is always giving his best and is continuing his journey from Rio and I believe in him and the way he plays. I was a bit upset when he received a yellow card against Raiwasa but the way he played in the final made him and I realise his game plan. He did a very good piece of set up and scored two tries.”
