Nacuqu is an exceptional player: Baber

Fiji 7s Coach Gareth Baber says playmaker Waisea Nacuqu is an exceptional player and he has been impresssed by his current form.

Baber said Nacuqu is improving game by game and his performance in the 45th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s was consistent.

“I saw his performance at the third leg and told him that he needs to bring improvement in his game and he took that seriously and did his best at Marist. One that that I have noticed about him is that Nacuqu has a very clear and understanding mind that if you tell him the areas he needs to really improve on and he will work on it.”

“He was one of the player’s in the Shadow team that had the quality competition within the team. He made sure to earn a spot in each match we played and several times he made appearances off the bench which shows that he had a great impact on the other players also.”

“One thing that I must commend about Nacuqu is that he has got that game breaking style in him and he stuns everyone with his performance. When we played against Raiwasa, Nacuqu combined really well with the other plays and broke the Raiwasa defence for a try.”

The Welsh man also mentioned that Nacuqu needs to continue with the hardwork and dedication as the national side prepares for the Tokyo Olympics.

“Tokyo Olympics is getting nearer and I spoke to the players that we don’t have enough time but whatever time we have is enough to prepare for the Olympics. Whatever loss and win we go through is taken as a positive approach and we will re-group and work on the mistakes we have found.”

“Nacuqu is aware of the areas he needs to work and I firmly believe that other members in the squad are aware of the work that is required from them. We want to see players bringing in quality games and that should be shown by them with the level of the skills and abilities they have.”
