Police Blue claim Women's title

Police Blue won the Women's final of the 45th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s at the ANZ Stadium in Suva today after beating favourites Marist Seahawks 17-5.

Josivini Gusuivalu and Julia Susu scored a try each as Police Blue  led 10-0 at halftime.

Wanikiti Vosadrau scored a try for the Seahawks early in the second half but a try by Adi Vika Rokotuinaceva sealed the win for Police.

Gusuivalu said they never dreamt of winning the tournament as the team was formed only last week.

"This is the first Police Women's 7s team and we did not expect to win but came into the tournament for the experience."

"The competition in the three day tournament was tough and we didn't expect to win. We wouldn't have done this without the support our their families and friends," she said.

She dedicated their win to children around Fiji as tomorrow is Palm Sunday.

Gusuivalu also dedicated the victory to Fijian peacekeepers in the Middle East.

Police Blue walked away $3500 richer and each player received a goal medal while the team was also awarded with a mahogany trophy.
