Tuwai dedicates win to frontline workers

Marist 7s Player of the Final and current World 7s Player of the Year Jerry Tuwai has dedicated his award to all front-line workers who have been working tirelessly to keep Fijian borders safe from COVID-19.

Tuwai was outstanding in the final where he scored two tries and set up another as Fiji Shadow thumped reigning champions Tabadamu 31-14.

"I'd like to thank the God and also the players and Coach Gareth Baber for guiding us to this win. We really played to our level best and the win is worth our hard work."

"Yes, the win we dedicate it to all the hardworking medical staff who are staying away from their home and families just so that they can fight the battle against COVID-19. This win is to thank them for staying awake day and night just so that we the public are safe and healthy."

He also dedicated the win to Fijian peacekeepers.

"We have our Military brothers who are in overseas on their peace mission. Hats off to them for the commitments they have been making by staying away from their families, just to create peace in the world. They are the real heroes who lay the example for us that yes we can also be heroes for our country either in sports or the work that we do. We have to display good quality and character to the young children."

Tuwai said the award personally means a lot to him and it has boosted his confidence to continue giving his best.

"This award is a big thing for me because it shows my passion and love for Rugby. I try my best and our coach also says that never lose hope and the biggest thing to do is just keep trying. Failure is just a lesson that brings out the best character and ability from us."

"I'm happy of the win and I want to continue to do my best and bring out a better performance from my end. I still have a lot to work on and we take this win positively and also as a lesson."

He received the best player medal, trophy, free air ticket and $500 prize money.
