Bainimarama Challenge to kick off in May

The Bainimarama Challenge Shield will return in the Vodafone Vanua Championship after a year.

Fiji Rugby Operations Manager Sale Sorovaki said B Division teams will fight the battle for a spot in the Skipper Cup competition next year.

“It will be the same format that we have been using but the Bainimarama Challenge Shield will kick off in May.”

“There will be a semi-final and final and the top four semi-finalist teams will take up the challenge. So the champion of the Vanua will become the holder of the Shield.”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Fiji Rugby could not secure a sponsor for the challenge but this year the challenge is up.

Lautoka won the Bainimarama shield challenge in 2019 and entered the main competition however the side demoted last year.
