Defence a concern for Nadi: Lal

Nadi coach Shalen Lal says his side needs to improve on its defence against Rewa ahead of its round seventh Digicel Premier League fixture.

Lal concedes that poor defensive plays was the hallmark of the  2-all draw against Navua earlier in the DPL.

“We lack in defense and that is something the team will work on before we meet Rewa. Defense is really important because we can’t afford goals against us and that is a factor that is affecting the team.”

“Our backline needs to improve on because once the opponents beat the forwards, the backs are warriors who need to combat and prevent any goals against us.”

“When playing against Rewa, we have to be really smart and use our technical moves on the ground. We have to ensure that we play fast foot football which we lacked a bit also.”

The former Ba rep also mentioned their players are doing personal training at home to remain fit.

“Yes, the players are at home and some are working but at the same time they are training on their positions. It’s important to keep your diet in control while the country is in lockdown. The boys are training while we wait for COVID-19 situation to calm down in the country.”

“The main idea is that we don’t want players to lose focus and just remain content on the next match. We also want players to spend time with their family and not just over train. My message to the players is to stay safe and stick to your own zone rather than moving around.”

The Nadi vs Rewa match will take place once the government grants sporting events to resume in the country.
