Jetsetters ready for title defence

Farebrother Sullivan Challenge cup holders Nadi is ready to defend the silverware for another season and is aiming for nothing less than a win against first challengers Rewa in a double-header this Saturday.

Nadi clinched the prestigious Cup after beating Namosi 22-21 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva last year and went on to defend it against Tailevu a week later.

The Jetsetters also thumped last season's Skipper Cup winners Suva 22-17 in the Champion vs Champion match a fortnight ago.

Chairman Jeff Tamata said they had positive results in their preseason matches and are ready to battle against newly promoted Rewa.

“The preseason training has boosted the team up and the players discipline and performance is at the best level. The boys have been informed on the areas they need to continue working as we thrive to achieve our goal.”

“The players are up fit and are in winning form. Their fitness has improved a lot which speaks a lot about the team. We want to create havoc for Rewa and beat them because we have been doing a lot of training.”

“Like every new team, Rewa will also come strong but we have set our goals and target which is to preserve the trophy. We have to beat Rewa and we won’t take them lightly. They will want to win but as the current champs we will do our best and beat them.”

Rugged forward Ron Katonivere will captain the side this year as last season's skipper Veremalua Vugakoto has joined a US based club.

Tamata also mentioned that they been spending a lot of time with the wingers in training to score lot of tries this week.

“Our wings have to be strong and fast and for that the speedsters in our team are working really hard. Our wingers were a bit weak last year and we want to avoid that this year. We don’t want players to continue with the performance they gave last year but this year we expect more improved performance from them.”

The side will feature experienced players like Vilive Miramira, Sela Toga, Vilikesa Driu, Anasa Vuatalevu, Apisai Nagi, Samuela Saqiwa and Aminio Naseyara.

The all exciting clash will kick off at 3pm.
