Fiji Sevens playmaker Jerry Tuwai believes the last leg of the Super Sevens Series is important to the national squad members playing in their respective clubs. Tuwai said the last leg is the final opportunity for the players to rectify their mistakes as they prepare for the Tokyo Olympics. “Just two months remaining and we are having COVID-19 impact around the country and some competitions have been held, the last leg is necessary. It’s for the boys in the national squad to bring out their best and see the errors they made before and improve on it.” “It will be very helpful for the players to see where their strength lies and how they can use their strength and right the mistakes. The boys have their own style and pattern of the game because of the different positions they play at and their position to be really strong is something everyone is working at.” “Yes, there are some weaknesses in our positions but everyone is trying and I’m glad that we are being supported by the trainers and our fitness is being monitored. We have gold out there waiting for us and in order to get that gold home, we will have to overcome our personal weaknesses and put up a good performance.” “The last leg will be the turning point for the national squad members and also a final chance for the players to impress the coach with their best. Everyone has been watching us since the first leg and also the other competitions and people will continue to see our performance and how we approach the game,” Tuwai said. The last leg was scheduled to kick off tomorrow and Saturday at Churchill Park but due to the COVID-19 impact it will be staged. By Romeka Romena |
