Baber wants trio for Tokyo Olympics

Fiji 7s Coach Gareth Baber is currently working out the logistics and seeking approval from Semi Radradra, Aminiasi Tuimaba and Vilimoni Botitu’s clubs to have the trio in his squad for the Olympics.

Baber said it’s challenging but he is trying to get the trio ahead of the Oceania Sevens which will be held from the 25-27 of this month.

“There is still certainly the plan to bring three players into us. Vilimoni Botitu and Tuimaba to come in soon and with all the support that everybody has been giving us. I never had to do anything as difficult as this in relation to getting players from overseas.”

“What that entails in relation to quarantine, flights, visas, exemptions. The whole thing was a logistical challenge and still at this point, I can’t tell that it’s going to happen.”

“The third one would potentially be Semi Radradra and obviously the communication through Semi is best for playing in the Olympics. He obviously in my opinion has played for me in the Sevens World Series."

"He is an exceptional talent and an exceptional man as well with the influence that he can have on the other players around and is very well known across the group,” Baber highlighted.
