National reps need more exposure: Flemming

National football coach Flemming Serritslev believes that national reps need more soccer exposure ahead of the World Cup Qualifiers.

Flemming told FijiLive that players need more game time as football was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said the player selection will depend on their hard work and determination in camp and also during the league games.

“Yes, there are a lot of things we will be looking at when we select players. The first thing we look at is fitness and their understanding of the game. We also see their hard work during the training and also at the match venues.”

“The onus is on the players on what they display to us. We know the players have been at home and understand that the situation was such that it didn't allow us to meet but when we meet again there will be a lot of undone work that needs to be completed.”

“This year we just had six rounds of soccer which are not enough to select the main national team so we need to see players given more game time and see their capability. Football is such a sport where players keep running for 90 minutes and that is where fitness plays the vital role,” he added.

The Fiji Football Association is hopeful to receive approval in hosting the national camp by the end of this month.
