Fiji 7s Coach Baber resigns

Olympic gold medal winning Coach Gareth Baber has stepped down as the head coach of the Fiji men's 7s team.

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive John O'Connor in a media conference this morning confirmed receiving Baber's resignation and wished him well.

He said Fijiana 7s Coach Saiasi Fuli will coach the men's team in the interim and he will be assisted by two-time Olympian Jerry Tuwai.

Baber's contract will officially end on 30 November.

Baber, a former Wales player and Coach of Hong Kong 7s team replaced Ben Ryan and was contracted from 2016 to 2020.

His contract was extended due to the postponement of the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Following Fiji's win in the Olympics, the FRU Board had agreed to offer the Welshman a new three-year contract.
