FRU waits for Baberís confirmation

With one month remaining for the start of the 2022 HSBC World 7s Series, Fiji 7s Head Coach Gareth Baber is yet to confirm his return to Fiji.

Dubai 7s is set to kick off on November 26-27 and Fiji Rugby Union is still waiting for Baber’s consent.

FRU chief executive John O’Connor says they are eager to know Baber’s decision while the 7s extended squad will return to camp in two weeks’ time.

Last month FRU offered the Welshman a three year contract until the 2024 Paris Olympics but he has not yet put pen to paper.

“Baber has not responded to us yet but we wait for his decision on his return. Last time we had discussions with Baber and he said he would return but he does not want to quarantine.

Most likely he will return when Fiji gets under quarantine free travel. It is understandable that he does not want to quarantine.”

“We are just waiting for his consent but in the meantime the boys will march into camp and prepare for the new series. They will be guided by the officials of Fiji Rugby,” O’Connor added.
