Naucukidi eager to face former mates

Former Fiji U23 goalkeeper Atunaisa Naucukidi is eager to feature against his home district Ba in Round 7 of the Digicel Premier League on Sunday.

The 23-year-old however is battling a shoulder injury and hopes to be cleared for the match.

Naucukidi picked up the injury in a friendly match against Navua last weekend.

Speaking to FijiLive, the youngster said he has not faced his former matches since moving to the Capital City last year.

"I am racing against time and trying all my best to recover and be fit for the match on Sunday as it has been my dream to play against my former team and teammates since I moved to Suva."

"At the moment I have a 50-50 chance and will await the final assessment by our medical team," he said.

“It’s not just about playing but the eagerness to get on the main field after six months of staying away from something I love to do. Soccer has always been my passion and I’m living my dream."

Naucukidi won three tournaments with Ba-  Battle of the Giants in 2018, Champions Versus Champions in 2018 and the National League and National Club Championship in 2019.

“I want to win the League with Suva also. I have won it before and I know what it feels like winning the League. That’s a different level of happiness.”

“At the moment I’m just trying to recover with the help of a physiotherapist."

“We know what kind of a team Ba is and they will put up a strong performance against us. We want to counter them and don’t allow them to score any goals,” he added.

The Unique Rubber Stamp Suva will take on Online I.T Solutions Ba at 3pm at the ANZ Stadium.
