Women's U16 and U19 events cancelled

The OFC U-19 Women’s Championship and OFC U-16 Women’s Championship which were to be staged next year have both been cancelled.

This decision was made by the OFC Executive Committee this week.

OFC General Secretary Franck Castillo said the committee had several factors to consider in making their decisions.

“While we had hoped to run our planned calendar of events as normal next year, the ongoing challenges presented by the pandemic unfortunately mean that wasn’t a realistic option,” Castillo said.

“At the forefront of our thinking was the health and wellbeing of our young footballers.

Subsequently New Zealand has been nominated as the OFC participant for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2022 and FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022, based on historical results for both competitions.

In lieu of next year’s cancelled OFC U-16 Championship, Tahiti has been nominated as the host of the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship 2023.
