The Fiji Football fraternity is mourning the death of former captain, George Koi, who died at his home in Nasinu yesterday.
The highlight of Koi's career was in 1977 when he captained the national team that defeated Socceroos' 1-0 at Buckhurst Park.
Koi also helped Rewa win the 1972 IDC.
Fiji Football President Rajesh Patel acknowledged Koi's contribution to the football arena.
"It's a huge loss. He had been a great footballer and an inspirational leader of his time.”
"He was a very passionate footballer and always supported the development of football in the country."
He was inducted into Fiji FA's Legend's Club in 2017.
Former Tavua, Rewa, Nasinu and national midfielder Ronald Chaudhary added that Koi attained a lot of respect amongst his teammates.
Chaudhary said he first saw Koi play when his Fiji military team toured around Viti Levu and they came to play Tavua at Garvey Park in 1982.
