The Lami futsal team will be chasing their first ever Futsal Inter District Championship title this week.
Team president Praneet Reddy said they had been runners up for the past two years and this year they have set their sights on the title.
Reddy said while weather affected their preparations yet, they were able to train at the hockey turf in Suva.
"Preparation is not like we wanted but the team is doing the training."
"We began with our training late but it has been intensifying for the past weeks."
"Lami reached the final two years and this year we really want to take the title home. Being runners up is not what we play for, when we reach the final our aim is to win, not to return as runners up."
"Our rival Suva is in the same pool as us and it's a pool of death. We are not going to underestimate any team. Everyone will want to reach the final but we will play smart futsal and score the needed goals."
"Weather was our major setback because when it was raining we couldn’t train and last week was really tough for us."
Reddy also revealed that the side will feature two new players Rajneel Singh who was the top goal scorer in Lami regional beach soccer competition Ronish Singh.
"The two boys are gelling well with the senior players in the team."
"Now we are just grooming the new boys and we are seeing their capability in the training. We hope Rajneel continues the scoring pursuit this week."
"Our most senior player in the team is Jasnit Vikash. He will start the match tomorrow and we know the strong futsal knowledge he has. He can be a threat to the opponents."
