First-timers Rakiraki are eager to make an impact in the 2021 Digicel Futsal Inter District Championship (IDC) in Suva this week.
Manager Shalvin Ram said they are excited to play in the IDC for the first time and players are eager to prove their worth against the big guns.
Ram said they will enter the tournament as underdogs and they are fully aware of the challenge after being drawn in Group A with defending champs Suva, Rewa and Lami.
"The excitement level is really high in the team because it will be our first time playing against Southern teams."
"We were the fourth team from the west zone to qualify and as a fourth team we have to create some difference in Suva."
"We are in a pool of death but we will try to survive that death. We know Suva is champs and Lami is also a tough team while we don't underestimate Rewa."
"Our aim has always been trying to scout local talents and that’s what we did during the Western futsal league."
"We are giving opportunities to the young players to bring out their talent on the field where they get recognition."
"The anticipation level is high and our aim in Futsal IDC is to create some upsets and probably try to reach the semi-final stages of the tournament."
Rakiraki will begin its campaign against defending champion Suva at 5pm on Thursday.
